Services to Groundsmanship.
As 2019 is the 150th Anniversary of Saltaire Cricket Club, it is most appropriate that Billy Ricketts is recognised for the amazing work he does in maintaining Saltaire Cricket Ground.
The ground is situated in Roberts Park - a public park, which makes his task all the harder - as he has to deal with vandalism, golf divots, footballers playing on the pitch, clearing up stones, litter and glass, maintenance of the equipment and premises amongst any anti-social behaviour.
One year he was even involved in removing hundreds of Canada geese from the pitch... and the mess they left. His dedication and hard work is awesome. Most days, he is there from the early hours and will quite often be there until the afternoon, and be back in the evening.
During the floods of 2015, Billy worked tirelessly, day after day, to ensure the mess was cleared up and the club could get back on its feet. Billy is doing fantastic work and he is someone who simply does it so that others can enjoy the game. He's a gentlemen, a true credit to the game and a real unsung hero.
Congratulations to Billy on his award after years of astounding dedication.
