KNOCKS CANCER FOR SIX!
Cawthorne Cricket Club has raised £2024.86 for Yorkshire Cancer Research after hosting a ‘Yorkshire V Cancer’ fundraising day.
300 people attended the event, which included a Pro Coach junior coaching session in the morning and an adults 40 over match in the afternoon.
Emma Holling, Committee Member and Event Organiser at Cawthorne Cricket Club, said: “We simply couldn’t have asked for better weather and the day was a great success. Thank you to all who donated prizes for the raffle, to the players who gave up their Sunday to put on the entertainment and to everyone who turned out to support such a great cause.”
Money was raised from a raffle, entrance fees, sponsors and programme advertising. Raffle prizes on offer included a wheelbarrow, which was used to present the prizes to the crowd, a mini bat signed by the current Yorkshire County Cricket Club team, a Cannon Hall Farm food hamper, vouchers for The Spencers Arms and Beatson House and afternoon tea vouchers for the local (deleted post office) tea rooms.
Sophie Bunker, Community Engagement Officer at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said: “Events like this are exactly what we are hoping more cricket clubs around Yorkshire will get involved with. Our ‘Yorkshire V Cancer’ fundraising pack is open to all and includes resources to help you advertise your event and more. Everyone involved in Cawthorne CC’s event has had a great time and there are already whispers of a 2016 event which Yorkshire Cancer Research are thrilled about.”
