Yorkshire Under-12 Development team enjoyed home comforts at West Bretton Cricket Club on Sunday, as they recorded a narrow 14-run victory over Warwickshire B.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first on an excellent wicket, Yorkshire amassed 186 for eight from their 40 overs. Openers Julian Cane and Matthew Simms gave the innings a solid base with a stand worth 68 before the former was bowled for 26.When Simms departed for 37, the right-hander unfortunately run out, Yorkshire suddenly found themselves at 98-4 in the 26th over. However, Lachlan Doidge made sure the innings didn’t fall away after such a positive start, making a rapid 53. The number five batsman hit seven fours and two huge sixes as he reached his half-century from just 35 deliveries.Edward Hutchings weighed in with 14 and George Crowther boosted the final total with an unbeaten 10 in the closing stages. Taz Ali was the pick of the Warwickshire attack, the leg-spinner taking five for 33 – four of his scalps bowled by turning deliveries - during his eight-over spell.
The Bears lost a wicket in the second over of their reply but a boundary-filled knock of 68 by Akhtar appeared to have the visitors on track to triumph. The turning point in the match came when the well-set opener – who had smashed nine fours in an impressive knock – was given run out following a mix-up, leaving the score at 147-7.With 72 balls remaining to make a further 40 runs, Warwickshire fell away to be bowled out for 172 in the 34th over. Left-arm spinner William Chapman held his nerve, picking up 2-6 at the death. Yorkshire also helped their cause with some first-class fielding, implementing two run outs to tame the Bears.
The team are next in action this Sunday, as they face Leicestershire at Ashby-de-la-Zouch.
Yorkshire Under 13A v Lancashire Under 13 – ESCA Northern Counties Championship
On Monday 17th July, Yorkshire U13A played against Lancashire U13 in their third game in this year’s ESCA Northern Counties Championship Cup.
On a warm, sunny day, Lancashire won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like an excellent Wakefield Thornes CC pitch. Harry Singh and Arav Shetty opened the batting for Lancashire and put on a century partnership before Singh was bowled by Clarke Doughney for 63 in the 28th over. Yorkshire toiled hard in the field with little success until the 40th over when Olly Lamb took the first of 2 good catches to dismiss Evan Williams off Noah Priestley’s bowling. Four further wickets fell in the last 3 overs as Lancashire reached 229-6 in their 45 overs. The wickets were shared around with 2 for Noah Priestley, 1 each for Joe Norbury, Harry Watkinson and Clarke Doughney and a good direct hit run out by wicket-keeper Harry Christy.
In reply, Yorkshire struggled to get going and found themselves 42-4 in the 17th over. Harry Allinson (pictured)and Harry Christy then came together at the crease. They weathered the storm and went on to produce a magnificent stand of 139 in 22 overs to bring Yorkshire back into the game. Both batted extremely well, gradually increasing the pace to move the score onto 181 before Harry Christy was out for 49 in the 39th over. Harry Allinson, assisted by George Horbury, continued the attack and reached 94 before he was also out attempting to overhaul Lancashire’s total. George Horbury, Joe Norbury and Harry Watkinson all tried hard to put the required runs on the board but to no avail. Yorkshire ended up on 221-7 losing the game by just 8 runs.
Thanks go to Wakefield Thornes CC for hosting the game.

Warwickshire U11s v Yorkshire U11As
After an extremely wet and rainy drive down to Solihull the game was delayed by half hour before skipper Noah Kelly won the toss and elected to bat first on a green but firm surface. Joe Pyrah (20) and Sabir Mahmood (28) got the team off to a positive start putting away the bad ball and adding pressure on the field through some excellent running. A leading edge from Joe saw the partnership broken bringing Freddie Chapman (11) to the crease before two wickets in two balls saw both Sabir and Freddie walking back to the pavilion. This brought skipper Noah and Tom Burton to the crease who took the attack to the bowlers in the midst of some excellent spin bowling from Warwickshire. Noah fell for 28 trying to push the scoring rate along in the last 10 overs which left Tom centre stage to hit some big sixes in the final overs to finish on 59* with the team finishing on 171-6 of the alloted 40 overs.
Warwickshire got off to a flyer in their reply reaching 56-1 with the help of some fielding errors before the introduction of spin from Josh Hen-Boisen (7-0-18-1) and Tom Burton (7-1-31-2) plus an outstanding catch from Jack Redshaw slowed the run rate down. Jack (5-1-17-1) and Leo Wilson (5-2-12-0) slowed the run rate even further however some costly dropped catches allowed Warwickshire's Mukung to make a good 79. Despite some good death bowling from Rohan Ratnalingam, Elliot Robinson and Louie Owens, Warwickshire got over the line to secure a 3 wicket win with an over to spare.
