to Thorpe Hall.
Cricket returned to the Thorpe Hall private cricket ground near Driffield this weekend for the first time in 38 years.
Scarborough under 9s played East Yorkshire under 9s blessed with clear blue skies, with players and parents having an enjoyable day out.
Cricket was first played at Thorpe Hall in 1908, the pitch being built by Somerled's Great Grandfather for the men of Rudston. Being a keen organist and musician, Somerled's Grandfather made a deal, that if he built the village a pitch, the men would have to sing in the Church choir. Hence, the first village cricket team was called the Rudston Corristers.
The pitch for Sunday’s game was prepared by Robin Coates and the day was supported by Harrogate Spring Water. Special thanks to John Green for organising the fixture and bringing the day together.
A collection on the day raised £43 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance service.
