PHILIP RADCLIFFE STEPS DOWN FROM HIS ROLE AS A YCB DIRECTOR
Philip Radcliffe has stepped down from his role as Non-Executive Director of YCB following over 30 years’ service to the recreational game in Yorkshire.
Philip has given significant service to the grass roots game through senior and junior league cricket and of course Umpiring and Scoring at all levels of the game which he will continue to support and develop, but it was felt that the time was right to stand down at Director level.
Many tributes were made to Philip at his last YCB Board meeting in August. Philip was a major part of the Yorkshire Cricket Association (the forerunner to YCB) for many years where he became Vice Chairman from February 2005 until its closure in February 2011 under the chairmanship of Eric Chadderton. Philip was not one of the original YCB Board Members in 1996, but soon replaced Gerry Oxlade on the Board. Philip became Vice Chairman in March 2005 until March 2009 when he succeeded Bob Platt as Chairman. He remained Chairman guiding the Board through many changes until March 2016 when he still remained as a Director giving support and advice.
Philip said “… It has been an honour to serve Yorkshire Cricket for almost 30 years through the Yorkshire Cricket Association and the Yorkshire Cricket Board, especially the seven years I served as Chairman of the Cricket Board. I feel the time is now right for me to stand down from my role and give the chance for others to serve on the Board. The role has changed significantly over the years and I have carried out the duties to the best of my ability. It has been a pleasure to work alongside everyone for the benefit of Yorkshire Cricket…”
Andrew Watson (MD) said “… Philip’s retirement from his role as a Director marks the end of an era for YCB. On behalf of everyone at YCB, I wish to thank him so very much for his significant help, support and guidance over many years steering YCB through to the present day and he will be greatly missed at Board level…”
Phillip will still assist with league matters and he will still provide the link for umpires and scorers through his role within the YCB Officials Association.
Philip’s experience includes a range of club and league administration roles within both Senior and Junior cricket. He currently serves as Bradford Junior League Chairman, a Bradford League Board member, the North Region Chairman of ECB ACO. He was previously YCB ACO Chairman and a member of the ECB's Recreational Cricket Committee and is a former President of Joe Lumb and Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival competitions and Heavy Woollen Cup Competition. Philip will still bring a vast knowledge of recreational cricket at both junior and senior levels.
