On Sunday 20th March, the winners of the Yorkshire Final of the ECB Indoor 6 a Side, Sheffield University CC, travelled to the home of Derbyshire CCC (The Incora County Ground) to compete in the Regional Final.

Their opponents in the first semi final were Grasshoppers CC (Shropshire winners).

Grasshoppers CC batted first and scored 97-5 in their 12 overs. Peter Shackleford was the most economical of the Sheffield University CC bowlers, only conceding 17 runs in his 3 overs. In addition, four of the Grasshopper CC wickets were run outs.

In reply, Sheffield University CC lost early wickets in each of the first two overs, and were thereafter always slightly behind the run rate, eventually being bowled out at 80-6. Eduardo Martin (batting at 4) top scored with 36 whilst Matthew Rees (batting at 5) scored 27.

They are to be congratulated on reaching this stage of the competition, just one match away from the Lord’s Finals in April, and will be hoping to go one better next year.
