Match report from the U12 Development Roses game.
Yorkshire U12 Developement v Lancashire U12B, held at York CC on Sunday 8th July 2018.
Yorkshire 195-8 (Joshua Simmons 33, Joe Pyrah 30) beat Lancashire 156 all out (Aaron Patel 3-20) by 39 runs.
On winning the toss, skipper Noah Chapman elected to bat on a very hot day. Yorkshire lost a wicket with 31 on the board; the casualty being the skipper. A stand of 44 followed, as Joe Pyrah and Jake Keslinke took advantage of some slightly wayward bowling with some good running between the wickets on a hard and fast outfield. Keslinke departed for 12 with the score on 75. Pyrah was the next to depart for a well made 30. Jacob Fordham and Josh Simmons took up the challenge and carried on scoring freely before Fordham made a rash choice in advancing down the wicket and ended getting stumped for 16. Simmons continued on, but again a misjudgment cost him his wicket as he was run out for 33. Further contributions from Myles Wood (19), a quickfire 21 from Harvey Round and 11 not out from Harry Edwards took Yorkshire to 195-8; A satisfactory score on what was a good batting wicket.
Lancashire's reply started poorly with an early wicket for Harvey Round. Archie Barraclough joined the attack and claimed a wicket in his first spell, returning later to pick up another wicket, before finishing with figures of 2 for 16 off 6 overs. However the bulk of the damage was done by off spinner Aaron Patel. Bowling with flight and getting prodigious turn, his seven over spell cost him 20 runs for 3 wickets. Off spinner Harry Edwards also claimed a wicket, as did Alex Burton and Ayaan Khokar. Round pulled off a magnificent caught and bowled to finish with 2 wickets for 28. The fielding and catching was of the highest quality as the Lancashire innings closed on 156. A great day at a truly magnificent club with excellent top class facilities. Sincere thanks to all at York Cricket Club for allowing the use of their ground.
