Sunday 2nd July saw Yorkshire U13A playing against Nottinghamshire U13 in their second game in this year’s ESCA Northern Counties Championship Cup.
Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bat. Joe Norbury and Harry Watkinson opened the bowling and after 9 overs had the opposition struggling on 17-3. The Yorkshire bowling attack kept the pressure on and after 32 overs Notts had managed to move to 64-8. However, number 10 batsman Finn Miller then came to the crease and scored 42 not out helping to take his team to 121 all out. The wickets were shared between the bowlers with Joe Norbury taking 3-27, Noah Priestley 2-8, Matthew Weston 2-11 and 1 wicket each for Harry Watkinson, George Horbury and Jack Young.
In reply, Matthew Weston and Olly Lamb opened the batting and at drinks had put on 67 after 15 overs. In the next 15 overs the Notts spinners took control taking 6 wickets for only 33 runs. The first of these was Olly Lamb who was out for 27. During this period, only Captain Matthew Weston (pictured)showed any resistance with a solid 46. When he was out it was left to Joe Norbury and George Horbury to steady the ship and guide the team home.
The final score was 122-6 giving Yorkshire a win by 4 wickets in 34.3 overs.

Yorkshire Under 12s Development side made a winning start to their campaign with an impressive 58-run victory over Cumbria.
Yorkshire were put into bat on a green, damp wicket and were soon in trouble, slipping to 29 for six by the 13th over at Burneside C.C. on the outskirts of Kendall.
However, Matthew Simms - batting at six - repaired the early damage. He shared a stand of 27 with Isaac Coates and then put on 65 with Caspar Stone, who blasted his way to 48 off 37 deliveries before being bowled.George Crowther then combined with Simms in a 55-run partnership to help Yorkshire close on 174 for 8. Simms carried his bat for 42 not out, while Crowther finished unbeaten on 40.
The pair then teamed up again with the ball, reducing their opponents to 18 for three during the opening six overs.Lewis Brown then claimed a wicket in his first over to leave Cumbria at 21 for four, although just like in Yorkshire’s innings, the hosts’ middle order hit back.Partnerships worth 32 and 54 for the fifth and sixth wicket respectively put the game in the balance – only for Simms to dramatically end Cumbria’s hopes with a devastating spell.
The left-armer returned to the attack to claim four wickets without conceding a run, giving him outstanding match figures of six for 12 in seven overs.
Yorkshire B will look to make it two wins from two when they take on Lancashire B in a roses clash at St Helens C.C. on July 9.
