- following winning start to the season.
Following on from their terrific win at Cleethorpes against Lincolnshire, Yorkshire U15’s B team have since gone on to raise the bar quite considerably.
They have defeated a useful East Yorkshire side at Londesborough Park CC (pictured) with a performance that highlighted a coming togetherness. An impressive performance by Rishi Bhustake 98 and a very good one from Oran White 61 saw Yorks reach 245 for 9 at the end of 50 overs. In reply East Yorks made 154 all out - Alex Leadbetter taking 4 for26 off 9 overs.
Tommy Hudson had a good game for East Yorks with 40 and 3 for 36, Danny Finchum also making 46. Overall Yorks were too strong and were deserving winners.
They then took on a strong South Yorkshire side at Cawthorne on the Sunday and defeated them with a performance that actually stretched them to the limit. A terrific all round performance saw them just hold it together when required to do so. This say’s much about their character and indeed their skill sets.
South Yorks batted first and made 135 all out. It was a very good performance by the B side. They bowled very well and supported it by fielding well. Only Lowe showed the technique and ability to deal with the bowling. He made a solid 43. Ben Shufflebotham on debut returned the figures of 4 for 17 off his 10 overs.
They then moved on to Redcar on the Thursday and comprehensively defeated a Cleveland side. They are now growing in confidence and players are showing a free spirit in their play. Equally they are functioning as a side in the field which much more belief and authority. Batting first Yorks posted 214 for 4 off 50 overs. Waheb Mirza made a very impressive 67. Both he and Billy Whitford (53not out) played with delightful panache and stroke play of the highest order.
When Cleveland batted they had no answer to the lively attack, only Row (25) made a stance in defiance with his team bowled out for 88. All the Yorkshire bowlers found in-roads and all picked up the wickets at regular intervals. A fine side is being developed with each and every fixture. They are meeting all challenges thus far. There is much to do still - but its all coming together nicely.
They returned home to play against a very strong West Yorkshire side, being as strong a side as they have ever selected to play in a district game. They were captained very well by Jake McCaffery, the wicket keeper, who can feel well pleased with his efforts on the day. All credit to them for the good cricket they played all day despite being outplayed by the County side. The all round game and approach by the County boys is gathering pace with each and every game they play. They have grabbed their opportunities wholeheartedly. They are putting enormous pressure on the A team players at this moment in time. Much to play for!
Batting first Yorks B made 287 for 7. Waheb Mirza made a magnificent 105 not out. He was well supported by Hamed 34, Pike 25, Day - Tennant 38,Shufflebotham 21. Alex Kennedy taking 4 for 40 off 10 overs - a good performance.
West Yorks in their innings showed a good solid approach and several players demonstrating their individual qualities. France made 24, Blythe 35, Tomlinson 37, Mawer 19.
Some of the West Yorks side were most impressive and have now forced their way into the County U15’s B squad as a consequence of their performance last Sunday.
Namely: David Tomlinson, Michael Jarvis, Rory France and Henry Blythe. All will be considered, at some stage, for the B side should injuries or promotion to the A’s occur during the course of the season.
