Barbara Hare Award for Services to Women's Cricket 2017.
David Wood (left) has been active in supporting Women and Girls' cricket at Pannal Cricket Club, near Harrogate, for over 10 years. Dave runs regular training sessions for the girls’ team, who play in the North Yorkshire girls league. Dave is also the founding Chair of the North Yorkshire Women and Girls Development Group which, without his efforts in the early years, would not be in the position they are today.
Many girls who started playing cricket at Pannal have progressed to play for North Yorkshire District teams and Yorkshire County Age Group teams. Current members of the Yorkshire Womens 1st team squad, Charlotte North and Rachel Hildreth, played at Pannal as juniors and are now members of the Women’s team.
Without the commitment and support of Dave, the girls at Pannal would not have had the opportunity to play and develop their talents nearly as much as they have. Dave works tirelessly to ensure that Pannal have a team for each game and to make sure everyone has a chance to reach their potential. With Dave’s guidance, Pannal have been very successful; winning the League and Cup several times in recent years. Well done to Dave for his fantastic work over the years! Cricket could use many more people like David Wood!
