Halifax Cricket League wins the 2017 Stuart Hodgson Award for Leagues.
The Halifax Cricket League is hugely pro-active in all aspects for the betterment of the game, with the aim of continuous improvement and reacting to player and NGB recommendations. A solid supporter of the National Playing Survey since its inception in 2013, the League positively promotes this initiative and encourages member clubs and players to engage and provide feedback. The League regularly have the largest number of responses across the County.
The League was actively involved in the early days of the instigation of the Yorkshire League Pyramid structure, providing valuable comments and input without prejudice - always being subjective and objective when necessary, but ultimately supportive and able to see the bigger picture.
The Halifax League executive did an amazing job of explaining both the rationale and benefits of change, notwithstanding the fact they were open to taking on board a wide range of negative and challenging comments.
The League regularly looks to improve, with the aim of offering the best service to its members. They often realign responsibilities and identify potential issues early – one such example being the formation of a new Junior League committee to address drop off numbers. Development and player satisfaction are at the heart of the League; promoting and supporting development leagues, player loans and joint teams where numbers are low. They are supportive of other leagues and receptive to accepting new clubs where Leagues have folded. They are constantly setting high standards regarding facilities and play, but supportive of clubs who fall short to ensure they are up to standard. The League have shown a huge degree of support to their clubs, who were severely affected by floods in 2015, proactively seeking advice and support while also being there in numbers to support individual clubs.
The League is a proactive driver of the Calderdale Cricket Development Group, which sees regular attendance of between 20-30 clubs. The League organises and runs these meetings and it is without doubt the strongest CDG in the County. The League fully supports and promotes all YCB/ECB initiatives, such as Natwest Cricket Force, All Stars Cricket, Crickfest etc. resulting in good uptake of initiatives by its clubs.
Well done to the Halifax Cricket League on their well deserved award in 2017!
