The ECB has launched new online safeguarding training courses, offering everyone at your club the opportunity to complete safeguarding training relevant to their role. These courses replace the ECB Safeguarding Young Cricketers (SYC) course and the Safeguarding for Specialist Roles course, both of which have now been discontinued. However, if your certificate for these courses is still current, it remains valid.
Please see details below of the required training and additional requirements for each role.
Role/Position | Required Training | Additional Requirements | Certification Renewal |
Club Safeguarding Officers | ECB SGL2 e-Learning | ECB SGL3 (Safe Hands) face-to-face course AND Valid ECB Enhanced DBS check | Every 3 Years |
Coaches, Activators, Team Managers, Junior Supervisors, Captains, Vice Captains, Umpires | ECB SGL2 e-Learning | Valid ECB Enhanced DBS Check | Every 3 years |

- DBS Check: This is no longer required for scorers and scoring is no longer classified as a regulated activity.
- Valid DBS: A Valid DBS means one that has an issue date, or has been rechecked, in the last 12 months.
- Safe Hands Courses: Club Safeguarding Officers are required to attend in-person specialist training, delivered by the Yorkshire Cricket Safeguarding team, typically in the evening and mostly during the off-season. To find and book a local course, click here.
